Exabrupto is the title of the new CD devoted to the music of Javier Torres Maldonado (Stradivarius STR 33719.) Through the anthology, which covers from 1997 to 2005, it is possible to journey through the creative universe of the composer, characterised by a search for an efficient management of the relationship between formal structure, rhythmic complexity and musical expression. His ideal “beauty of sound” clearly appears in each of the pieces, which are arranged in a succession that shows a careful balance between the representativity of the works and variety of the ensemble: Exabrupto (1998) for 3 instrumental groups, a pianist and a percussionist, played by the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne conducted by Lorraine Vaillancourt; Tiento (version for cello and electronics, 2004), played by Andrea Cavuoto; The unexpected clock in the mirrors (2005) for violin, bass clarinet and ensemble, played by the work’s dedicatees, Carlo Chiarappa and Rocco Parisi, accompanied by the Dynamis Ensemble conducted by the composer; Orior for piano, played by Candida Felici; De ignoto cantu (2004) for ensemble and electronics, played by the Dynamis Ensemble conducted by Torres Maldonado, and finally Luz (2000) for accordion and string quartet, played by Germano Scurti al bayan and the Quartetto Terpsycordes.
